I recently took a bit of an extended holiday from the normal day to day. My wife and I adventured to Hawaii and then to Australia for about a month. (check out my Twitter @TheDaneReis to watch a few saved Periscopes). It was incredible and “just what the doctor ordered”. You see as many of us entrepreneurs’ know it’s easy to do a couple things… 1) Get distracted by shiny objects. 2) Get in a long term grind session of development, marketing, improvements, etc. It had been far too long since I had taken a step back. Prior to our holiday I was amidst a serious grind! I can’t complain that much because A LOT of progress was made, and a lot of positive and profitable outcomes were achieved.
However, I was nearing the end of my creative rope. I had my head down so long and focused that I was reaching the point of burn out. Our adventure came just in time. While I did not disconnect completely or stop doing what I was doing entirely, I did take a step back and re-prioritized my daily routine. I focused on fun, relaxing, spending each moment with my wife, enjoying the pristine ocean, beaches, sunsets, food, family, and friends. I have to be honest though, it was hard to do at first. To let go of the grind I had been in. As the weeks rolled on however, I found it easier and easier to simply “be” and enjoy each moment for what it was.
Now, back in Vegas I have managed to get caught up with everything, but more importantly, I have a new vitality about my approach to everything I am doing. From my mental state to productivity, happiness to creativity. Everything is better! The best part is that while taking my “break” from the grind I pieced together the next iteration of My Fusion Profits. It was literally as if the clouds parted, and on the other side was the perfect solution to what I was looking for. It’s literally the biggest breakthrough I’ve had yet in the progression of what MFP is!
I highly doubt I would’ve had this revolutionary breakthrough if it wasn’t for consciously taking the time to remove myself from my work and concentrate on the much simpler things in life. Now, I’m able to approach this breakthrough with a fresh mind and motivation that is literally keeping me up at night to think about.
The point I’m trying to make is that you need to consistently and consciously take time to evaluate your state of being. Have you been in a grind too long? Have you been lazy too long? Have you simply not taken time for yourself in a long time? Do you need to concentrate and appreciate what is happening in your life as it actually happens? For me, it was walking away from everything that led to my breakthrough. I encourage you to take a moment today and think about where you’re at. Most of the time you’ll know what steps you need to take to solve your problem. You need to make sure you’re honest with yourself and actually do the thing that you know will help… even if it seems counterintuitive.
What is it you need to do to get to the next level?
