Where are you’re going?

I just got done listening to a fantastic podcast by Jay Kubasek.  There is a fantastic analogy he used for having Drive and knowing where you’re going. I think you’ll be able to relate to this incredibly well.

Jay talked about the bicycle analogy.

Imagine yourself when riding a bike.  You’re peddling down a straight road. You’re having a good time and moving straight as an arrow.

Now imagine you’re coming up on a narrow street with cars parked on either side.  I’m sure you’ve even been in this situation before. What do you do?

Where are you’re going?

Chances are you slow down, the bike get wobbly, and suddenly you’re concentrating on not hitting one of the cars.

Why did this happen?

Just a minute ago you were comfortable and going completely straight  when there weren’t cars around.

And you know that if you just kept looking ahead down the road to where you were going you’d zoom right past all those cars not hitting a single one.

So again, why did you slow down?

This is a fantastic analogy for what most people do when trying to get somewhere.

For many there is no drive or direction behind what they’re trying to accomplish.

Where are you’re going?

Ya we all want to be successful, but if you just generally want success and have not defined exactly what you want and exactly what your destination is then you will constantly focus on the obstacles.

The cars in the road will away be something to worry about. You’ll get wobbly on the way to your destination. You might even crash into one of the cars; stopping you from ever arriving.

Too many times we focus on the crap on either side of us that really has zero impact on how fast we can get to our destination.

All we have to do is look up, look ahead, and know where we’re heading. Then all the other stuff around us doesn’t matter and we go straight to our destination.

With that, take a look at your life. What are you trying to accomplish?  Do you know how you’re gonna get there? Do you have someone to help you along the way? What are the obstacles you’re wasting you time and energy with?

  • Stop paying attention to the crap.
  • Get clear on what you want.
  • Like a laser, lock on to it.
  • Now all you have to do is pedal…
  • Pedal Fast.
